From your friction to the fix

User-provided CamScrubby design sketch: dirty camera, cleaning alternatives, flip-away rotating brush, and a hinged cover protecting the bristles.

After careful research, we decided that the product should feature:

  • Fits Rectangular and Cylindrical Cameras:
    We’re designing the strap mount for rectangular and cylindrical cameras, with or without a sunshade. Spherical cameras aren’t part of this first version.
  • One Brush Size, Adjustable Shaft:
    We’re making the shaft length adjustable to center the same brush over the lens on different-sized cameras. This cleans the area the camera sees through without needing a brush that covers the whole front.
  • Solar Power, Built-In Battery:
    We’re designing a thin perovskite solar panel to charge the cleaner’s built-in battery. The battery and controls sit behind the brush, so there’s no separate control box. The camera keeps its own power supply.
  • 5–10-Second Cleaning Cycles:
    We’re targeting 5–10 seconds per cleaning to keep interruptions brief. After each cycle, the brush folds clear of the camera’s view and infrared sensors.
  • Custom Cleaning Schedule:
    We’re planning an app for daily, weekly, or monthly cleaning schedules. For an extra clean, users can start one cycle in the app or press the paired remote.
  • Tucked-Away, Replaceable Bristles:
    We’re designing the brush to fold away and close its own protective cover between cleanings. The cover opens before the brush moves toward the camera, and users can replace the bristles when needed.

Key tech to ensure problem is solved

Solar power charges the built-in battery. Separate motors move and spin the brush; a linked cover protects the bristles between cleans.

CamScrubby concept: sunlight and a blue power path reach the integrated brush-back pod; orange arcs distinguish brush rotation and hinge movement. Internal layout is illustrative.
