“I turn off the reminder, tell myself I’ll take my meds in a minute—and then forget.”

I wish: I wish my reminder would stay with me until I reached my medication.

From your friction to the fix

Original design-thinking sketch: bridge the gap between a medication reminder and a matching bottle tap.

After careful research, we decided that the product should feature:

  • NFC Bottle Confirmation:
We’re using bottle-specific NFC tags so dismissing a reminder means reaching the right bottle. Vibration continues until the matching, authenticated tag is read, unless paused for five minutes.
  • Three-Button Reminder Control:
Hold + and tap a bottle’s tag to add a daily time, starting tomorrow. Hold − and tap to remove all daily reminders for that bottle. Yellow pauses vibration for five minutes.
  • Phone, Pendant, or Handheld Carry:
We’re planning magnetic attachment for compatible phones and an included neck lanyard. The same device can be worn as a pendant or held on its own, without a phone.
  • Compact Size and Skin-Friendly:
We’re targeting a thickness of 0.31–0.47 inches, a skin-friendly feel, and drop resistance. Leaving out a phone stand keeps the design focused on everyday carrying.
  • Long Battery Life, USB-C Charging:
We’re evaluating a 1,200 mAh battery, with NFC asleep between reminders and schedule edits. Runtime depends on how long each reminder vibrates and still needs testing. The bottom USB-C port handles recharging.
  • Everyday Splash Protection:
We’re planning splash resistance for the housing and bottom charging port, since taking medication often involves a glass of water and an occasional spill.

Key tech to ensure problem is solved

When a dose is due, PillPal vibrates and wakes its NFC reader. It is designed to end that reminder only when the matching, authenticated bottle tag reaches the NFC rings—not when colors match. Between reminders, NFC sleeps while a low-power clock keeps time.

Exploded concept rendering of PillPal: NFC reader, compact PCB, battery, vibration system and magnetic rear housing; not an engineering assembly drawing.

How it Works

When it’s time for your medication, PillPal vibrates to get your attention. Tap the matching NFC-tagged bottle to stop the reminder; the daily schedule stays in place.

Quick & Easy Setup

Setup: apply the secure bottle tag, hold green + while tapping the NFC rings, then receive a daily reminder beginning tomorrow at the same time.

A pause, not a dismissal.

Busy right now? Press yellow for a five-minute pause, then PillPal vibrates again. A tap from the matching bottle ends this reminder, while tomorrow’s schedule stays saved.

Press yellow for a five-minute pause. The medication reminder returns unless the matching bottle is tapped.

Why “PillPal”

PillPal concept versus standard app alerts, paper calendars, audible alarms and verbal family reminders. Feature comparison, not a guarantee that medication is taken.

Imagine your life after having it...

Illustrative concept scene: an older North American man anxious about forgetting medication on the gray left; a calmer, cheerful routine with PillPal on the color right. Not a customer testimonial or a clinical result.
